Faith and Progressive Policy Intern
June - August 2018 • Washington, DC
What I liked
I loved working at Center for American Progress. It was a fantastic, hands on experience working in a think tank. Employees there were excited to get to know me and help me make connections, validated, appreciated, and gave helpful feedback on my work, and gave me vital career skills and advice.
What I wish was different
I didn't hear back from CAP until May, which made planning my summer really stressful and difficult.
Advice
Take the time to get to know people in your office and make connections. People will help you with really interesting and exciting opportunities, including working on projects and making connections with other people. If you're there in the summer, play on the softball league even if you're terrible because it is tons of fun and helps you meet others at CAP.
Like any internship, work hard, perform even menial tasks well, have a good attitude, and be ready and willing to learn and help!
