Summer 2025 Public Policy & Advocacy Internship

Summer 2025 Public Policy & Advocacy Internship (May-August) - PAID

Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) is the world’s preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls, serving 2 million members worldwide. Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. The Public Policy and Advocacy office located in Washington, DC works to build strong relationships with Members of Congress, as well as with officials at the White House and federal departments and agencies. Through our advocacy efforts, we inform and educate key representatives of the government's legislative and executive branches about issues important to girls and Girl Scouting and advocate for increased program resources.

This dynamic and substantive internship will provide the ideal candidate an opportunity to promote public policies and research on critical issues facing girls, as well as to mobilize the support of Girl Scout councils and other youth serving organizations in grassroots advocacy. Our legislative agenda focuses on the following advocacy issues: civic education; access to outdoor exploration; financial literacy; girls’ participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM); and supporting a thriving nonprofit community.

In addition to general office support duties, specific intern responsibilities include: research on girl-focused issues, drafting policy memoranda, assisting in the implementation of congressional briefings, helping to create advocacy materials, attending congressional hearings and briefings, developing content for publication and websites, tracking relevant legislation, and participating in various national coalition meetings. Excellent research ability, writing, and verbal communication skills are a must. This will be a hybrid opportunity where the candidate will work both in-person and virtually. This pay rate for this position is $20/hour.

To apply, please send a resume, cover letter and one writing sample to advocacy@girlscouts.org with the subject line “Summer 2025 Internship Application.” Please include your last name in the title of each document you submit.
