Research Assistant
The Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) in Orangeburg, NY is focused on understanding the underlying biology of and advancing treatments for psychiatric illnesses. Under the direction of Dr. Russell Tobe, the Child Studies and Autism Lab and the Clinical Evaluation Center (CEC) conduct a wide range of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) studies. Current research protocols include several clinical pharmacology trials exploring novel medications, refined diagnostic characterization, and innovated MRI-based imaging approaches.
Job Description
Applications are currently being invited for a 2-year full-time Research Assistant joint position in the Child Studies and Autism Lab and the CEC.
Ideal candidates will have prior human subjects research experience, strong interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication, and the ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently. Initiative, superb organizational skills, and attention to detail are essential characteristics for success in this position. Technical skills are a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities will include any combination of the following:
- Supporting clinical trials and investigator-initiated studies
- Conducting behavioral, neuropsychological, and psychiatric assessments
- Recruiting research participants
- Performing data entry and managing data spreadsheets and databases
- Analyzing data
- Acquiring EEG and MR Imaging data
- Assisting with IRB protocol submissions and modifications
The Research Assistant will work with autistic pediatric and adult participants as well as their families and support providers. The Research Assistant will be a part of a larger multi-disciplinary team including a child and adolescent psychiatrist, a psychologist, research scientists, and research nurses.
Qualifications
- B.A. or B.S. in psychology, neuroscience, biology, social work, or another related scientific field
- Prior human subjects research experience preferred
- Five-day workweek which may include rare weekend effort
- Must have valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle (i.e., cannot rely on public transportation to commute to site)
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong written and oral communication
- Superb organizational skills
- Ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently
