Tik Tok Fellowship

Tik Tok Fellowship, Wisconsin Supreme Court Race

Wisconsin residents will be voting again this Spring in a number of elections at the state and local level. Statewide elections for the Supreme Court and Superintendent will be on the ballot in addition to a number of local municipal elections.

The majority on Wisconsin’s State Supreme Court is also once again on the ballot. And, the past year has shown how consequential the court’s role is in protecting the rights and freedoms of Wisconsinites. Since 2023, they have:

  • Ordered new state legislative maps to be drawn to combat our previous Un-democratic gerrymandered maps that gave Republicans 70% of the state senate and 61% of the state assembly, despite the tight statewide margins
  • Restored the use of ballot drop boxes for the 2024 election
  • Ruled against Act 10, an Anti-union law that eviscerated public sector unions and the right to organize

In the near future, the Justices will release their ruling on the constitutionality of Wisconsin’s 1849 Abortion Ban.

For all of these elections, it’s important that the over 300,000 college voters in Wisconsin are educated and aware of these spring elections.

Building on work started during the April 2023 Supreme Court Election and in the 2024 election, we’re building a scrappy and innovative team that will organize and inspire thousands of college students to vote in the upcoming Spring elections, including the Supreme Court Election.

What Will You Do?

Our Tik Tok fellow will work with our Creative Director and Organizers in their region to film and edit short-form creative videos that will help mobilize students for  Wisconsin’s 2025 elections. This is an excellent opportunity to get an inside look at how campaigns work and gain pivotal experience in crafting content that emphasizes key messages, while providing critical resources for students.

Our Tik Tok fellowship will start in February and run through April 2nd. Fellows will spend 15 hours a week mobilizing on their campus by filming, editing, developing concepts, and talking to students about the importance of the upcoming elections. Content will be shared on our statewide Tik Tok account and campus-specific instagram posts. This is a paid fellowship.

Who Are You?

As a successful candidate for this job, you will:

  • Be eager to find niche and/or untold stories
  • Understand the correct tone & pace for short-form video
  • Create content that sounds natural & organic, rather than scripted & pre-informed
  • Demonstrate an ability to condense information into under a minute in a way that is interesting to those with limited knowledge and interest of politics
  • Have a passion for progressive politics and inspiring young people to get involved
  • Be excited to think outside the box and to ideate and innovate to find the most exciting and effective content to mobilize students in your region
  • Be eager to talk to as many students as possible (and be comfortable talking to a lot of strangers/potential volunteers)
  • Be scrappy and flexible; able to manage several tasks simultaneously
  • Be a self-starter, exceptionally well-organized, and have strong time management skills
  • Be enrolled at a Wisconsin college or university.
