2024 Intern- Multimedia Intern
DESCRIPTION:
This position is eligible for a hybrid (both remote and onsite) telework arrangement. Candidate's residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
As an intern for the Creative Services department, you will have the opportunity to engage with our customers and staff to capture photographs and video of our amazing Twin Cities transit system and the people it serves. Examples of your required work would include: capturing video testimonials from passengers, portraits of customers at their most-used transit stops, and other video and photo content that captures the positive story of efficient and safe transit in the Twin Cities.
This is a Mac-based position, and you will use current equipment/software to perform your tasks.

What does a 2024 Internship with the Metropolitan Council entail?
As a 2024 Intern with the Metropolitan Council you will benefit from on-the-job training and mentoring along with participation in team projects, social events, and professional development. Interns will receive the opportunity to build professional relationships and enhance their interpersonal skills. Interns will also interact with their coworkers and participate in projects that directly affect business value.
Who is the Metropolitan Council?
The Metropolitan Council is made up of several operating divisions that service the Twin Cities Metropolitan area in a number of ways.
- Metro Transit provides bus, light rail, and commuter rail public transportation for the greater metropolitan area.
- Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) manages wastewater treatment plants and the regional wastewater collection system for the seven-county metropolitan region.
- Community Development is responsible for helping the Council shape its regional growth plan and Metro HRA provides affordable housing programs in the region.
- Metropolitan Transportation Services (MTS) is responsible for the transportation planning functions as the Twin Cities metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for transportation.
- Regional Administration provides support services (Finance, Payroll, HR, etc.) for the Council.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Capture high-quality photos and video of people, vehicles, and events following style and brand guidelines.
- Add content to our asset library, along with relevant metadata.
- Manipulate, edit, and color correct images using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be enrolled in a degree seeking program (Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Masters) OR be a recent graduate (within 12 months from posting date) from a degree seeking program.
- Candidate's residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
- Transcript is required.
- Some proficiency in eye-catching photography, at least basic video capture and editing knowledge, and an organized workflow for transferring footage and photography into a content management system.
- An online portfolio that showcases academic or professional video and photography work. This can include social media content.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficient photography and video capture skills.
- Comfortable with speaking to strangers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Familiarity with uploading files into a database and applying metadata.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, in particular Photoshop, Lightroom, and Adobe Premiere.

If you are new to the Metropolitan Council, you must pass a drug test (safety sensitive positions only), and a background check which verifies education, employment, and criminal history. A driving record check and/or physical may be conducted if applicable to the job. If you have a criminal conviction, you do not automatically fail. The Metropolitan Council considers felony, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a case-by-case basis, based on whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation.
