2024 Intern- Learning and Organizational Development Intern
DESCRIPTION:
This position is eligible for a hybrid (both remote and onsite) telework arrangement. Candidate's residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
As an intern for the Learning and Organizational Development department, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the field of training and development. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with the LOD team to expand your knowledge and skills around designing and developing training material to a wide range of learners. You will have the opportunity to support other programmatic initiatives that align with the intern's unique strengths, skills, knowledge and passions. The intern will:
- Internship Length: Full Time Summer & Part Time School Year
- Start Date: 05/28/2024
- Location: Robert Street
- Hours a Week: 40 hours a week
What does a 2024 Internship with the Metropolitan Council entail?
As a 2024 Intern with the Metropolitan Council you will benefit from on-the-job training and mentoring along with participation in team projects, social events, and professional development. Interns will receive the opportunity to build professional relationships and enhance their interpersonal skills. Interns will also interact with their coworkers and participate in projects that directly impact business value.
Who is the Metropolitan Council?
The Metropolitan Council is made up of several operating divisions that service the Twin Cities Metropolitan area in a number of ways.
- Metro Transit provides bus and light rail public transportation for the greater metropolitan area
- Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) manages wastewater treatment plants and the regional wastewater collection system for the seven-county metropolitan region
- Community Development is responsible for helping the Council shape its regional growth plan and Metro HRA provides affordable housing programs in the region
- Metropolitan Transportation Services (MTS) is responsible for the transportation planning functions as the Twin Cities metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for transportation
- Regional Administration provides support services (Finance, Payroll, HR, etc.) for the Council
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Assist in designing, developing, and delivering skills training to Council employees.
- Assist in review and creation of training content materials to ensure learning outcomes are met.
- Co-facilitate training in classroom or virtual settings that incorporates use of adult learning principles.
- Assist with facilitation of new employee onboarding at Metro Transit with bus operators.
- Update and organize materials using prepared curriculum.
- Support programmatic initiatives that align with the intern's unique strengths, skills, knowledge, and passions.
- Research and analyze training and development practices, methodologies and trends and recommend new approaches.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be enrolled in a degree seeking program (Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Masters) OR be a recent graduate (within 12 months from posting date) from a degree seeking program.
- Candidate's residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
- Transcript is required
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to convey information in a clear compelling way.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Well-developed communication, presentation, and/or public speaking skills
- Effective at building relationships by collaborating with others.
- Intermediate skills in MS Office (particularly Outlook and PowerPoint), and MS Teams
- Previous customer service experience

If you are new to the Metropolitan Council, you must pass a drug test (safety sensitive positions only), and a background check which verifies education, employment, and criminal history. A driving record check and/or physical may be conducted if applicable to the job. If you have a criminal conviction, you do not automatically fail. The Metropolitan Council considers felony, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a case-by-case basis, based on whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation.
