To provide computer hardware, software and network technical support for the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) at LSU. The MIE Dept. is home to 6 degree programs, 2 cost recovery centers, and 3 research centers (CeRoM, TIER, CISIA). When fully staffed, it is supported by 6 office and 9 technical staff members that serve 35 T/TT Faculty, 6 Instructors, 5-7 p/t instructors, multiple Post-docs and Research Associates, ~1300 UG students and ~100 graduate students. Research expenditures are in the range $3.5M-$4.5M annually.
10% To acquire computer computer related resources and licenses and manage spare resources. Order, receive, verify, return as needed - hardware and software in support of the front office, undergrad labs, research labs, and faculty computer needs as specified by MIE. Order materials through Workday and resolve accounting invoices. Order through online web sites as needed (e.g. Newegg.com).
30% To stage, install, update, and repair computer related resources and licenses as directed by MIE and the college of engineering. Assemble computer hardware & install software. Update MIE cadlab hardware as needed. Update software between semesters. Keep security software up to date.
30% Establish, maintain, and communicate computer related best practices; integrate campus wide practices into MIE practices as established by Computer Services; communicate migration information; perform changes to uphold campus/college/department policies. Communicate campus policies to MIE. Update software as Computer Services requires. Determine what hardware and software will be supported and will no longer be supported.
10% System management - operation of resources owned by MIE and shared with other departments. Operate and maintain servers according to MIE needs and campus requirements. Maintain printers, NAS (network attached storage) servers, billboard displays (raspberry PI mini computers), network cameras, audio visual computers, projectors, cameras, TVs, etc in presentation rooms.
20% Develop and maintain in-house software for the MIE Department as needed to serve its constituencies.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field, and 3 years of professional-level computer experience in systems, databases, and application support.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree, 2 years of experience in MS Windows, Linux and OSX operating system experience; building computers from components; familiarity with networking hardware and software.
Preferred Certifications/Licenses: Microsoft Certified Systems engineer - Knowledgeable of Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, related desktop systems, networking RHCE or equivalent experience - Knowledgeable of Linux server operating systems, desktops, networking
