Career Counselor (Req ID 5024)

Job Overview


Responsible for planning, coordinating, developing, and implementing a professional individual and group counseling program for assigned students in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives. All duties need to be in conjunction with the industry team.

 

Shift will alternate weekly working 11am - 8pm for a week and then 8am - 5pm the following week.



Responsibilities


Essential Duties & Job Functions:

Review detailed background file, conduct personal interview and recommend a program for each assigned student.

Initiate and maintain individual Personal Career Development Plan (PCDP) and Social Intake Form (SIF) for each assigned student.

Ensure that student needs are assessed early in enrollment. Facilitate initial student placement.

Provide direct aid to students with personal needs or problems, i.e., sickness, injury, family problems, emergency leaves, job abandonment retrieval.

Provide continuous educational, career technical training, personal, and social adjustment counseling on an individual and group basis. Recommend necessary program modifications throughout each assigned students’ stay.

Conduct continuous interpretation and evaluation of the progress of students’ specific development program. Coordinate problem cases and point out areas in which guidance and development techniques can be improved. Maintain documentation and records.

Utilize new concepts and approaches; recommend and conduct training sessions and conferences to develop greater proficiency among staff in areas of guidance and social adjustment.

Recommend medical or psychiatric evaluation for emotional or psychological problems. Evaluate results and take remedial action as warranted. Participate as a member of the mental health team.

Refer students to other program areas such as transfers, extension or advanced programs, or college placement.

Serve as chairperson of the performance evaluation team; participate in other Center programs such as orientation, intergroup relations, and functional evaluations.

Conduct intense counseling services to students in first 60 days.

Conduct a variety of special programs such as human sexuality, sexual harassment, family planning, pregnancy program, and inter-group relations.

Assist in the evaluation of Center services for students and recommend modifications for improvement.

Maintain contact with student families if student is a minor. Utilize community resources as needed.

Provide staff training and support residential advisors in conducting dormitory group counseling sessions.

Transport students as assigned for Center purposes.

Complete administrative record keeping including contacts and services provided.

Perform all other duties as requested.


Job Requirements


Mandatory:


Bachelor’s degree in counseling or related field, including 15 semester hours of instruction in social services related instructions.

One (1) year related experience and/or training.

Valid driver’s license, with an acceptable driving record.

Successfully pass background check and drug test.
