Program and Event Intern - Milwaukee Riverkeeper (SEJ)

Position Description

The Program & Event Intern will assist with the Adopt-a-River Program, which supports 2,000 volunteers annually at more than 200cleanups throughout the Milwaukee River Basin, and with public event set up, promotion and planning. They will also participate in our fishing, plastics, and education programming by supporting fishing clinics, identifying and working with businesses looking to reduce their plastic waste, and educating the public about our work at community events.

Responsibilities

  • Help create publicity materials, such as newsletters and social media content
  • Prepare supplies for events, cleanups, and meetings
  • Create an inventory plan for cleanup and event supplies
  • Gather, organize, and evaluate program and event data
  • Organize, clean and count cleanup supplies
  • Represent Milwaukee Riverkeeper at public events to raise awareness of the organization
  • Assist with tabling and public outreach events
  • Recruit and support businesses working to reduce their plastic waste
  • Milwaukee Riverkeeper employees need to be flexible and may be asked to take on additional duties based on the organization’s needs and the staff member’s skill and abilities.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate may have the following qualifications:
  • Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Experience working with volunteers is a plus
  • Knowledge of basic software including Microsoft products
  • Data entry experience a plus
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends and evenings
  • Valid driver’s license

This internship is part of the Lawrence University Social & Environmental Justice Cohort, which provides an opportunity for Lawrentians to explore social and environmental justice impact careers, gain professional experience, and develop as leaders. Students complete a full-time summer 2023 internship with an identified social and/or environmental justice impact organization in Milwaukee or Appleton, while participating in ongoing reflection with fellow students, Professor Jason Brozek, the Career Center, community leaders and alumni.  Students may apply for as many positions as they are qualified for and interested in.
