Child Welfare Supervisor - Case Management

The individual selected for this position will be responsible for leadership and supervision for a team of professional child welfare social workers focusing on child welfare case management. Incumbent will also serve as a back up to team members, providing services as needed for regional coverage.
This position will be responsible for:
- Overseeing the daily activities of Child Welfare Social Workers performing various Child Welfare duties such as child protection, ongoing reassessment of child safety, and case management duties focusing on well-being and permanency.
- Providing technical support, training and guidance to staff as well as guidance to community partners to develop partnerships and expand community options/resources for clients and families.

Our generous benefits package increases the total compensation of a full-time (benefits eligible) Child Welfare Supervisor making $31.83/hour to an estimated $44.69/hour.
The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. Example of Duties
Supervision:
- Interview and hire staff, support new staff through the Academy competency-based learning period.
- Plan and organize work and assign cases to child welfare social workers according to worker competence and case needs.
- Determine case priorities and ensure quality of work performed.
- Direct practice and provide consultation to ensure standards are met within the context of family-centered practice to achieve safety, permanency and well-being for children in the welfare system.
- Arrange for clinical consultation and oversight when appropriate for department child welfare cases and approve funding for services.
- Monitor, review and approve written work, including court documents.
- Evaluate employee performance and provide feedback on an on-going basis.
- Sample and evaluate cases for adherence to practice standards and compliance with state and federal laws regarding children's welfare.
- Conduct staff meetings and provide technical oversight regarding program policies, goals and procedures.
- Assess staff training needs and provide training.
- Gather a variety of data from the child welfare computer systems and prepare monthly and quarterly reports.
- May perform direct case management for clients and families, including intake, assessment, case management, licensing and contract monitoring.
Technical Support/Training/Guidance:
- Meet with individual staff and interdisciplinary team and participate in individual and group staffing activities regarding child welfare cases.
- Participate in child welfare supervisor and management team meetings and make collaborative decisions regarding workload and fiscal management.
- Participate in permanency committee staff and decision-making regarding Department's recommendations to the Court for permanency for children based on best practice and practice standards.
- Establish working relationships with community partners to develop support and service partnerships with community groups to develop resources for children and their families.
- Serve as service liaison to community groups, the multidisciplinary team and other partnerships.
- Research community demographics; develop materials and make presentations to the community regarding child abuse and neglect.
- Train and provide support to courts, law enforcement, probation and parole, CASA, Foster Parents, service providers and schools to ensure department standards are met.
- May serve as regional expert regarding specific child welfare practice areas such as adoption, risk assessment, Indian Children's Welfare Act (ICWA) or Adoption and Safe Families Act (ASFA).
Minimum Qualifications

- Licensure as a Social Worker in Idaho in accordance with Idaho Code 54-3201 et.seq.
- Some knowledge of supervisory practices.
- Some knowledge of community organization/development principles and processes.
- Four years experience as a Social Worker in assessment or case management of child protection cases. A Master of Social Work Degree may substitute for one year of the required experience. Assessment or case management experience in another public child welfare system or child welfare agency may substitute on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years. Considerable knowledge of supervisory practices and/or supervisory experience in a related human services field may substitute for two years of the required experience.
