Outreach and Education Coordinator

Do you love hearing community discussions on important health topics? Do you enjoy analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data? Are you interested in making an important impact on messaging in public health? The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is seeking a Limited Service Health Education Specialist, Senior to work in the outreach section of the Idaho Immunization Program in the Bureau of Communicable Disease Prevention. In this role you will have the opportunity to listen to community members about vaccination topics and share results with stakeholders to improve vaccination outreach and education and support the health of Idahoans.

General Information:

  • Conduct vaccine related community assessments and listening sessions
  • Analyze and share results with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide messaging education to vaccine providers, schools, and childcare 

Successful candidates must be able to work autonomously and within teams. Candidates must also display reliability, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, a high level of professionalism, and an exceptional ability to successfully coordinate and complete multiple tasks. This position may require some in-state travel. In-state (within Idaho) telework or a hybrid schedule is an option.

Benefit Information:

Our generous benefits package increases the total compensation of a full-time (benefits eligible) Health Education Specialist Senior making $26.33/hour to an estimated $37.60/hour.

This is a full-time limited service position that will support infection prevention and control activities until at least July 31, 2023. Length of limited-service appointments are determined by the availability of funds such as grants, alternative funding sources and/or timeframes such as pilot projects, alternative funding sources or program termination.

Example of Duties
  • Coordinate with staff across the Division of Public Health
  • Plan and conduct regular community assessments/listening sessions
  • Analyze and summarize data from community assessments/listening sessions
  • Present results to internal and external vaccination stakeholders
  • Develop programs, policies, and procedures, as needed
  • Recommend policy changes, as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with program staff to approve continuing education credits for program education events

Minimum Qualifications

You must possess all the minimum qualifications listed below to pass the exam for this position.   • Good knowledge of public health education principles and practices to include needs assessment, information dissemination and community organization relating to common health problems 
  • Good knowledge of basic disease etiologies and preventive strategies 
  • Good knowledge of survey methods and basic statistics used to collect and interpret data
  • Good knowledge of training methods
  • Experience developing or reviewing and evaluating health-related information material
  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating public health education programs

  2. Some knowledge of immunization best practices. Gained by at least one year of related professional experience or completion of at least one related, upper-level college course.
  3. Clinical experience in a healthcare setting or pharmacy which delivers vaccines. Gained by at least one year of professional experience in a healthcare setting or pharmacy which delivers vaccines.
