Social and Environmental Justice Intern - Bay Bridge (SEJ)

Bay Bridge is seeking a summer student intern who is committed to and passionate about racial equity, community organizing, and transformative change.

Bay Bridge is a grassroots, volunteer-led organization working toward racial justice and unity in Whitefish Bay. We envision Whitefish Bay as a welcoming community that recognizes systemic racism, and actively works to address and dismantle it. We center, raise up, and amplify the voices of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, and we support all Whitefish Bay residents' anti-racist journeys in our collective work to transform relationships, Village governing bodies, schools, and community safety.

The student will receive academic credit and a stipend to support their work throughout the summer, funded by Lawrence University. The student will commit 35-40 hours over the course of 8-10 weeks. We will work with the student to design an experience that uphold Bay Bridge’s mission and work and is also in alignment with the students’ skills, interests, and goals.

Areas that the Bay Bridge student may support include the following:

- Develop social media posts and communications to amplify Bay Bridge’s work and central issues on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

- Support local youth in their organizing efforts to build youth of color leadership in addressing education, health, social, and economic disparities

- Work alongside Bay Bridge organizers in event planning (e.g. community education, book reads and film viewings, etc) and developing strategies to engage community members in programming and resources

- Support partnership development with students, parents, schools, faith and community-based organizations, businesses, etc.

- Develop materials to support Bay Bridge volunteers, such as a digital welcome toolkit, a guide for how to complete tasks (e.g. social media posts, PR, etc)
