CDC Systems Analysis Research Internship

A research opportunity is currently available with the Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP) within the Center for Global Health (CGH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located in Atlanta, Georgia.
The participant will learn and train how to apply theories of systems analysis in practice in a project that seeks to apply systems mapping to research on the relationship between public health systems and workforce. The participant will receive training on how to conduct meta-analysis, as well as collect qualitative and quantitative data (using qualitative and quantitative software packages) to inform the development of a systems map and analysis report. This project will allow the participant to gain knowledge and practice in using skills related to health behavior, neuroscience, systems analysis, strategic thinking, organizational psychology, and other social science.
The participant will closely collaborate and train with a CDC team by participating in research planning discussions and proposal writing so that the systems analysis can inform research on the public health institutional and workforce structure necessary to respond to public health needs in a post-COVID world. The fellow participant may also be asked to support data entry and analysis work for the Field Epidemiology Training Program, which will provide further training related to evaluation planning, analysis, and reporting.
The overarching learning objectives are as follows:
- To gain knowledge and skills in the practical application of systems analysis approaches to global health work.
- To gain knowledge and experience in government policy, practice, and program implementation.
- To obtain skills and experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Anticipated Appointment Start Date: Summer/Fall 2020
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment can be up to one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
