San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is searching for a Data Scientist. SFO is in the midst of a massive physical and technological infrastructure buildout. From the ITT department, this includes technology tracking passenger throughput at security checkpoints, Wi-Fi devices, energy usage, and various airport assets. Many airport operations are expected to be adapted and reconfigured based on the data captured by these sources. Under the general supervision of the ITT DevOps Manager, this position is responsible for understanding, processing, extracting actionable insights from, visualizing, and communicating data to help drive business performance. Education:
An associate degree in computer science, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in computer science or a closely-related field].

Substitution:
Experience in analyzing, installing, configuring, enhancing and/or maintaining the components of an enterprise network may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units/ forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in computer science or a closely related field.
Completion of the 1010 Information Systems Trainee Program may be substituted for the required degree.

Desirable Qualifications
The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred to hiring.

  • Experience in performing data mining, data processing, and exploratory data analysis using SQL, Python libraries (e.g. NumPy and pandas), and big data tools (e.g. Hadoop MapReduce and Spark).
  • Experience in performing hypothesis testing, regression, classification, clustering, time series analysis, natural language processing, feature engineering, and predictive modeling.
  • Experience in programming and developing algorithms in Python. 
  • Experience in supporting airport operations functions & systems.
