Assistant Director for Academic Advising - Advising, Retention and Career Center (ARCC)

POSITION: A full-time, professional academic staff position is available in the Advising, Retention and Career Center beginning November 15, 2018.  The working title for this assignment is Assistant Director for Academic Advising with an official title in the Assistant Director title series. This is a renewable assignment, contingent on performance and funding. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Advising and Retention.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required. 
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusivity.
• Minimum 2 years of professional experience working with college students.
• Strong written and oral communication.
• Ability to:
     o plan, organize, and meet goals
     o establish and develop productive and collegial relationships
     o collaborate and communicate with on campus constituencies (e.g., staff, faculty, students, managers, etc.)
     o build effective teams as needed

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
• Educational background in counseling or related field
• Demonstrated experience working with college orientation or first year programs
• Previous supervisory experience
• Experience in academic advising of college students
• Demonstrated knowledge of, and prior experience with, predictive analytics and proactive student intervention.
• Ability to:
     o develop innovative approaches to program planning
     o work with confidential and sensitive information and records
• Skill and technical proficiency in MS Office, PeopleSoft, EAB Student Success Collaborative and Imagenow

DUTIES:
• Oversee orientation programming for a variety of student populations including new and transfer students
• Creates and coordinates comprehensive communication plans for incoming students specific to special populations’ needs
• Hire, train and supervise administrative professionals, student interns and student Orientation Assistants
• Collaborates with other departments to support recruitment and orientation opportunities
• Support Associate Director of Advising on coordination of orientation training and creation of orientation support materials
• Monitors the various orientation budgets
• Assess the quality and effectiveness of Orientation programming, make suggestions for improvements as necessary
• Chairs the Orientation workgroup and is an active member of various campus committees
• Updates various social media as necessary 
• Supervises the Testing Office
• Administers the “Blugold Family Connections” communication outreach and programming efforts
• Organizes and facilitates year-round strategic student advising communication campaigns specific to topics of students success and retention issues 
• Provides oversight and best practices with the implementation and utilization of the department’s advising software
• Serves in an advising capacity on an as needed basis
• Other duties as assigned

THE UNIT: The Advising, Retention and Career Center consists of 45+ staff members dedicated to effective campus-wide academic and career advising practices and initiatives. The center consists of Academic Advising, The Office of Career Services, The Center for Service-Learning, Orientation Programs and Degree Review.  Our staff partner with faculty advisors from the four colleges to provide our students with a holistic advising approach.
