Production Technician
Production Technician (Skilled Technical Support)
Reports to: Technical Director
The Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts is seeking part-time Production Technician / Skilled Technical staff to support a wide range of performances, educational programming, rentals, festivals, and special events.
Position Overview
Production Technicians provide skilled technical support for performances and events, including audio, lighting, rigging, video systems, and stage management.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with and/or independently execute:
- Lighting hang, focus, and light board operation (L2)
- Lighting design – typically in a busking environment (L1)
- Audio setup, microphone selection, audio cabling and routing (A2)
- Audio mixing, performer communication, and system support (A1)
- Video, PTZ camera, and projection setup and operation (V2 and V1)
- Serve in technical roles such as:
- Audio Technician / Engineer
- Lighting Designer, Technician, Follow-Spot Operator
- Electrician
- Fly Operator / Loader / Rigger
- Deck crew with technical and troubleshooting responsibilities
- Assist with running shows and executing cues
- Support interpretation and implementation of technical needs for performances and rentals
- Maintain and organize technical equipment and backstage areas
Additional Responsibilities (as assigned based on experience)
- Stage management support
- Audio / lighting / video system troubleshooting
- Equipment maintenance and minor repair
Important Distinction
This is a skilled technical role. Technicians:
- Operate and manage technical systems
- May take direction from or support the Technical Director or Lead Technician
- May guide or work alongside production hands during event execution
Qualifications (Applies to All Production Staff)
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Ability to lift and move equipment (50 lbs or more with assistance)
- Strong communication skills
- Reliability
Experience
- Varying experience levels welcome, including high school and college students interested in technical theater or live events
- Working knowledge in one or more of the following preferred:
- Theatrical lighting, including ETC Ion consoles, DMX, RDM, Ethernet
- Audio systems (digital/analog), including Yamaha digital consoles, Dante, Ethernet
- Video/AV systems, including PTZ Camera control, video mixing, NDI, Ethernet
- Rigging and fly system operation and maintenance
- Stage management, system and personnel safety protocols
Work Environment
- Indoor and outdoor event settings, including theater, studio, and festival environments
- Physically active role requiring standing, lifting, and movement
- Fast-paced, live-event atmosphere
