Building for Kids - Museum Education Intern (Lawrence-Funded Internship)
Building for Kids:
Job Position Summary: The Building for Kids’ Museum Education Intern is someone who is looking to build a stronger community for kids and their families, by providing engaging and extraordinary experiences and lasting relationships through the support of facilitated activities, events, and exhibits. This position will also spend time analyzing engagement in some of the museum's education activities and programs.
Key responsibilities or projects
- Advance the museum’s reputation as a safe space, where diverse communities feel welcome, and programming is inclusive and accessible to all populations
- Support play-based learning activities in BFK's Summer Explorer Camps and activity spaces, The Lab and The Studio
- Support the coordination and facilitation of events hosted by the museum
- Actively engage with visitors through activities and in exhibits
- Have an awareness of needs in the museum’s exhibits and activity spaces – cleaning, putting away items, restocking items and supplies
- Work in partnership with Administration department to analyze engagement in past education activities and programs
Desired qualifications (skills, coursework, or experience)
- Energetic and engaging presence
- Experience or interest in working with children
- Experience engaging with diverse groups of people, including different ages and abilities
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups of people, and on a one-on-one basis
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-traffic environment
- Ability to adapt and adjust to environmental changes and to the needs of the people being served
- Extraordinary communication skills
- Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills
Weekly schedule/hours and on-site vs. hybrid/remote expectations
- On-site position
- Monday – Friday
- 35-40 hours
Compensation:
This internship is part of the Lawrence-Funded internship program. The student selected for this internship will receive a $5k stipend to help cover housing and transportation costs and living expenses.
