Global Finance and Business Management Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Accessibility to senior managers through the company intranet's phonebook; plenty of networking and information sessions about career opportunities; social events throughout the summer to get to know other interns; managers and colleagues truly cared about my interests and valued my work/inputs.

What I wish was different

Advice

Be open to new experiences and ask a lot of questions. Schedule as many coffee chats as you can, and don't hold back when reaching out to senior managers. People have always been more than willing to meet with me for half an hour to an hour and tell me about their experience, no matter how senior they were.

Corporate Analyst

June - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

My team was fantastic and always made sure that I had meaningful, helpful work to do. I found the company culture to be fantastic ; everyone at the company was willing to help me whether that was with my project, or for career advice. After receiving my full time offer, I had multiple people whom I had met this summer personally call me to congratulate me and offer their help in any way.

What I wish was different

I was under the impression that it was going to be more finance-based and it was not. Though it was not what I expected, I greatly enjoyed the work that I did.

Advice

Don't be afraid to fail - you will be given tasks that seem impossible or confusing, but do not be afraid to try them.

Summer Analyst

June - August 2019 • Newark, DE

What I liked

It placed me outside of my comfort zone. I established valuable connections and met great friends along the way. They frequently had senior speaker chats where we could learn about the day to day roles of people within the firm.

What I wish was different

No major complaints. The only thing I would say is maybe a different role within the firm.

Advice

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Set the bar high and go accomplish whatever goal you put in place. You will never be successful without growth so don't be afraid to get out there and reach your full potential.

Associate banker

July 2017 - August 2019 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

I loved the benefits, the schedule, the PTO, working with bankers, my supervisor and manager very closely. I loved handling cash, coin, checks, getting access to the cash and ATM vault. It was an awesome job. I got to help San Antonio clients with their bank accounts. It was the most sociable job I had and got to build strong rapport with many people that visited the bank. Honestly, I felt like a bad ass getting to count and move money around. It was a sweet ass college gig. Hands down can’t beat going to college and work part time with benefits. I also liked the dress code, I felt very professional going to work as a 19 year old until I was 21.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have kept working there had I not have had to take on more college classes during bank hours. I also wish that I didn’t have to schedule my time off the 15th of the month prior considering I was eligible to take a break if I needed a day off. My permanent address is in Houston so I needed time off from work on Thanksgiving and Christmas to see them and there were many times that I had to work a lot around the holidays and even my birthday, so even though I had plenty of vacation time, I wasn’t able to use it because of the seniority of other employees there. I worked there for 2 years and I had colleagues that had more than 10+ years of experience so I felt like I wouldn’t ever have a preference for getting time off. And I was upset when I tried to schedule my birthday off since the first week of the year and got told it was already taken and then they changed their plans and I got offered to take the Wednesday of my birthday only without the rest of the week so it sucked to have time off based around other people’s convenience and even when I had the opportunity to schedule my time off I was denied. I don’t blame any of my colleagues. I blame the system that doesn’t want to hire more personnel for coverage and is even making it sound like it’s better to close down branches and move to a more digital form of banking. Digital banking means that banks are cancelling jobs for profit. A multi billion dollar bank like Chase should be finding ways to help the working class economy not look for ways to profit at the expense of the people that helped build the business in its entirety. It’s greedy and shows lack of ethics.

Advice

This is a great opportunity for financially inclined and entry level people. I am seeking an engineering degree so eventually I had to resign regardless of how much I could grow in this industry.

Global Finance and Business Management

June - August 2018 • Newark, DE

What I liked

I really enjoyed the experience behind it all. Moving from NC to DE was scary at first, but I am glad I did it. I met so many good connections, and now have a job lined up for me next summer.

What I wish was different

I wish it wasn't majority of excel, but some jobs you can't get away from that!

Advice

If you're looking for an internship, try to find one out of state. It helped me grow so much and made me see what else is out there!

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

One of the highlights of this internship was working in NYC. When I visited NYC for the first time, I told my mom that one day I want to work in NYC. It would be so cool. And, here I am. I did it. Besides, I honestly liked the culture and the internship program at JP Morgan. Everyone was so welcoming and wanted to hear what I have to say about what could be done and what how would I do it if I was given an opportunity. I also got to learn a lot about the corporate world, which I had no experience at all.

What I wish was different

I wish my team members were given remote access to our desktops.

Advice

Don't underestimate yourself; you can achieve anything you want! If I were hesitated by the belief of "small fish big pond," I would have missed a great opportunity. I was never looking for any specific industry to work in, but I wanted to part of something big and cutting-edge. So, don't narrow down your goals too quickly. It's time to explore. Also, working at JPMC has been an excellent experience for me, so much better than I ever could have imagined! JPMC is indeed a tech-friendly company and is making significant advancements in doing so (ex: AI/ML, Blockchain, and Quantum Computing).

Chase Leaders Development Summer Intern

What I liked

It was a good program in terms of development skills across different areas of business.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had chosen a different city location.

Advice

I would encourage juniors to try something new if they don't get their first choice for internships. Studying abroad, going on mission, or gaining some sort of world experience also looks really great going into senior year.

Wealth Management Summer Analyst

June - August 2017 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

I loved the people that I worked with - I still keep up with them almost on a weekly basis. We worked in teams everyday, and it was challenging. The best part about the job is that everyone in the office was willing to sit down with you and explain things to you when you didn't understand it. A great learning environment.

What I wish was different

I wish that we had worked more with the other interns, but it was just because we all got along so well we wanted to spend more time with them!

Advice

Just be prepared to always have a good attitude, work hard and be helpful in any way you can. This is a great learning experience and a great way to meet awesome, hard-working people in Dallas that will genuinely be invested in your career path.
